Key Notes
Atlas owns the infrastructure ecosystem used to deploy services, run workloads and manage traffic across Trainline. This £80,000 to £90,000 London role delivers complex Terraform changes, AWS account controls, Node.js or Python automation and production-ready CI/CD releases while reviewing mid-level engineers’ work. Relevant expertise includes secure cloud design and agile delivery experience; Trainline’s standard hybrid model requires at least 60% office attendance over 12 weeks.
What You'll Work On
- Deliver complex improvements to Trainline’s Atlas engineering platform, strengthening the AWS infrastructure used to deploy services, run workloads and manage traffic.
- Implement and evolve Terraform modules, identifying improvements to maintainability, automation and quality across complex cloud environments.
- Apply least-privilege and secure-by-default controls consistently across AWS accounts.
- Build Node.js or Python automation for repeatable infrastructure delivery and validate production-ready changes through CI/CD pipelines.
- Review mid-level engineers’ work and coordinate delivery plans, milestones, dependencies and blockers with Tech Leads and Delivery Managers.
Why This Role Matters
- Atlas engineers use reusable Terraform modules and Node.js or Python tooling to make infrastructure changes more maintainable and repeatable across the platform.
- Trainline’s AWS production estate receives changes checked through CI/CD validation and engineering review, limiting avoidable defects before infrastructure updates go live.
What They Are Looking For
- Technical: Strong AWS experience, for example ECS, Lambda, IAM or CloudFront, and operational/security practice are sought.
- Technical: Terraform infrastructure-change experience is sought; complex or large-scale cloud environments are ideal.
- Technical: Node.js or Python automation, scripting or integration experience is sought.
- Domain: Secure-cloud design, least privilege, account structure and service authentication such as OIDC are sought.
- Experience: AI-tool use for coding, review, research or engineering productivity is sought.
- Preferred: Multi-account/multi-region AWS, CDN, WAF, Git-based CI/CD or enterprise-scale AWS experience is helpful.
