Trainline’s Core Experience pillar covers search, pricing, payments, fare intelligence and conversational interfaces, with this manager-of-managers owning its ML strategy, delivery and budget. The remit spans two ML managers and about ten individual contributors, production MLOps, vendor and infrastructure costs, plus LLM and agentic governance. Hybrid staff attend the London office at least 60% over each 12-week period.
What You'll Work On
- Set the ML vision, strategy and roadmap for Core Experience, including cloud, vendor and third-party tooling budgets.
- Lead two ML managers and about ten individual contributors, shaping hiring strategy, coaching, experimentation and technical standards across teams.
- Deliver production ML across search, payments, fare optimisation, supply automation and conversational AI from prototype through monitoring.
- Establish operational practices and co-own governance for LLM features, agentic systems, privacy, security and audit accountability.

- Experience: Relevant experience includes significant experience leading production ML teams through team leads in a manager-of-managers structure.
- Technical: Relevant technical skills include full-lifecycle ML, MLOps, model deployment and reliable systems at scale.
- Experience: Relevant experience includes ranking, recommendation, forecasting, optimisation or real-time decisioning systems with measurable outcomes.
- Domain: Relevant domain knowledge includes SLIs, SLOs, incident management and ownership of infrastructure or vendor budgets.
- Stakeholder: Relevant stakeholder skills include strategic and technical leadership, stakeholder communication, and hiring or mentoring technical talent at multiple levels.
- Preferred: AWS, product-led delivery, conversational or agent-based systems, and travel or marketplace experience are nice to have.
