Depot security, workload planning and workshop-team leadership are the responsibilities of this Arriva assistant manager. You’ll maintain vehicle availability and on-road performance while meeting safety, quality and environmental requirements. Heavy-vehicle engineering experience, a recognised engineering apprenticeship or vocational, degree or diploma route and team-development capability are required. The permanent, full-time Thurmaston role is expected to be on site because of its workshop supervision duties, with confirmation required; bus or HGV experience and IOSH are desirable.
What You'll Work On
- Supervise depot engineering teams and allocate workshop workloads, coordinating safe maintenance and vehicle availability against service requirements and statutory standards.
- Monitor fleet reliability and engineering performance, targeting breakdowns and lost mileage and developing preventative-maintenance improvements with the Engineering Manager.
- Maintain work records, safety and quality controls, coordinating parts, equipment and contractor activity to support efficient and compliant workshop operations.
- Develop engineering colleagues through briefings, performance management and training, supporting staff matters and deputising for the Engineering Manager when required.
What They Are Looking For
- Experience: Heavy-vehicle, equipment or machinery maintenance, repair and overhaul experience.
- Qualification: A recognised engineering apprenticeship or relevant vocational qualification, or engineering or vehicle-maintenance degree or diploma.
- Domain: Strong health-and-safety knowledge and safe workshop leadership.
- Stakeholder: The ability to lead, motivate and develop engineering teams.
- Preferred: Bus or HGV industry experience and IOSH are desirable.
