Harlow depot engineering leadership and reliability improvement are the work of this Arriva assistant manager. You’ll allocate work, maintain compliance and support engineering costs and team performance. The permanent, full-time role pays £55,000 for forty hours, normally Monday to Friday 07:00–15:00, with occasional weekends and hands-on cover. Relevant engineering experience and an apprenticeship, vocational qualification or degree or diploma are required; depot attendance is expected from the core supervision duties, with confirmation required.
What You'll Work On
- Supervise depot engineering teams and allocate workshop workloads, coordinating safe maintenance and vehicle availability against service requirements and statutory standards.
- Monitor fleet reliability and engineering performance, targeting breakdowns and lost mileage and developing preventative-maintenance improvements with the Engineering Manager.
- Maintain work records, safety and quality controls, coordinating parts, equipment and contractor activity to support efficient and compliant workshop operations.
- Develop engineering colleagues through briefings, performance management and training, supporting staff matters and deputising for the Engineering Manager when required.
What They Are Looking For
- Experience: Heavy-vehicle or machinery maintenance, repair and overhaul; bus or HGV experience is preferred.
- Qualification: A recognised mechanical or electrical apprenticeship or vocational qualification, or relevant engineering or vehicle-maintenance degree or diploma.
- Domain: Strong health-and-safety knowledge and safe workshop leadership.
- Stakeholder: Team leadership, organisation, analysis and clear communication or constructive feedback.
- Preferred: Trade-union representative collaboration is desirable.
