Key Notes
Production ownership of Via’s core algorithm codebase makes this a hands-on backend position within the London R&D team. An MSc in a relevant computing or mathematical field and at least three years of Python backend experience are required; Kubernetes and cloud-architecture experience are advantages. The remit covers mission-critical services and collaboration with DevOps and algorithm researchers, with hybrid working near Chancery Lane.
What You'll Work On
- Take ownership of the large codebase implementing Via’s core algorithm, maintaining existing logic and developing improvements to its production behaviour.
- Develop and maintain mission-critical services that run algorithmic functionality on Via’s live systems and support the needs of its products.
- Improve technical performance, including the responsiveness of the booking application used by passengers and clients on Via-powered transport services.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams, algorithm developers and researchers to deliver software changes across the algorithms group’s technical products and systems.
Why This Role Matters
- Passengers using Via’s booking application can receive faster responses when developers improve the performance of the production algorithms and services behind it.
- Via’s transport products depend on maintained algorithmic services; ownership of their code and business logic connects software changes with the systems operating live networks.
What They Are Looking For
- Experience: A minimum of three years of hands-on Python backend industry development is specified.
- Qualification: Relevant qualifications include an MSc in computer science, software engineering, mathematics or a similar subject.
- Technical: Deep algorithms and data-structures knowledge is required; software-engineering practice including Git and CI/CD is sought.
- Preferred: DevOps/cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes and cloud-system architecture and maintenance are strong advantages.
