Key Notes
HSE leadership in a complex or high-hazard environment is requested for this full-time role covering Bristol and Kemble. You will lead the HSE team and an ISO 45001-aligned management system across engineering, laboratories, testing and operations. A NEBOSH Diploma, relevant NVQ Level 6 or equivalent is required; battery or flight-test exposure is desirable.
What You'll Work On
- Set HSE strategy and risk-based assurance plans, advising executive and operational leaders on priorities and integrating safety into organisational decisions.
- Lead incident investigations, audits and regulatory engagement, using performance data to address risks across laboratories, prototype activities, facilities and operational teams.
- Develop the HSE team, management system and competency requirements, maintaining environmental compliance and translating investigation findings into sustained operational improvements.
Why This Role Matters
- A common risk-based assurance approach lets Vertical compare hazards across laboratories, prototypes and test operations, directing leadership attention towards the exposures identified as operational activity changes.
- Significant incidents provide evidence about failed controls, with structured investigation and leadership accountability affecting whether lessons produce lasting changes across the affected engineering operations.
What They Are Looking For
- Qualification: Relevant qualifications include NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent.
- Experience: Relevant experience includes HSE leadership, investigations, regulatory engagement and ISO 45001-aligned systems.
- Domain: Relevant domain knowledge includes UK safety legislation and practical environmental compliance.
- Preferred: Preferred attributes include Chartered IOSH, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, ISO 14001/IEMA or high-voltage experience.
