Key Notes

The Class 730 fleet is the focus of this permanent technical support role at Soho Depot, Birmingham, advertised at about £60,000; Alstom does not expect candidates to have every listed skill. It combines Fleet Monitor surveillance, intermittent fault investigations and support for failed trains in service. Listed capabilities include electrical NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and practical knowledge of modern Electric Multiple Units.

What You'll Work On

  • Monitor Class 730 trains through Fleet Monitor, record in-service defects and investigate intermittent or repeated failures with the engineering support team.
  • Provide diagnostic advice to drivers and depot teams, and coordinate failed-train rescue plans with the duty Production Manager and replacement-unit arrangements.
  • Collect performance-system downloads and undertake diagnostic test runs, supplying technical evidence to systems specialists, support engineers and the Warranty Engineer.

Why This Role Matters

  • Class 730 failures affect trains already carrying out commercial services; diagnostic evidence and rescue decisions establish the response for failed units and their replacements.
  • Repeated fleet faults require evidence beyond an isolated repair, with system downloads, test runs and specialist engineering investigations informing the resolution of persistent problems.

What They Are Looking For

  • Qualification: An electrical NVQ Level 3 in rolling stock or aircraft, or equivalent, is sought.
  • Technical: Practical knowledge of the mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering of modern Electric Multiple Units is sought.
  • Technical: Competent use of a personal computer, office applications, email and intranet systems is sought.
