Driving Instructors

First Bus London, United KingdomOn-SiteFull Time

Key Notes

PCV instruction takes candidates through driving and theory preparation to test-ready standard, while existing drivers receive refresher and remedial training. Instructors also make pass/fail assessments following referrals for poor driving standards. The permanent, full-time positions cover First Bus London garages and require early and late weekday shifts. Instructor training is offered to eligible experienced PCV licence holders.

What You'll Work On

  • Provide PCV driving and theory instruction to non-PCV candidates, preparing them for work in the London bus operating environment.
  • Deliver refresher training to existing PCV drivers, assessing their performance against First Bus London’s stated company driving standards.
  • Undertake remedial training for drivers referred by garages for poor standards, making an overall pass/fail assessment and giving appropriate advice.

Why This Role Matters

  • Prospective bus drivers receive structured preparation for PCV tests and the London operating environment, connecting licensing preparation with the standards expected by the employer.
  • Existing drivers referred for poor performance receive remedial instruction and an explicit assessment, allowing garages to judge whether further intervention is needed.

What They Are Looking For

  • Experience: PCV-driver training, preparation for DVSA Module 3 and 4 tests and understanding of assessment and retraining standards are required.
  • Stakeholder: Required capabilities include constructive feedback, coaching and adapting instruction to learners with different abilities and experience.
  • Preferred: A PCV instructor qualification is desirable; training is provided for candidates who have held a current PCV licence for at least three years.
  • Eligibility: A clean accident record and consistently high driving standards are required.
