Key Notes
One year of people-management experience sits alongside hands-on research engineering, with a £155,000–£163,000 base salary. The London team will work with colleagues in Oxford and Mountain View on foundation models for autonomous-vehicle evaluation products. This is a hybrid role spanning model experimentation, realism metrics, production integration and recruitment for Waymo’s Driver Understanding and Evaluation organisation.
What You'll Work On
- Develop foundation-model experiments and realism metrics for ultra-realistic autonomous-vehicle simulations used by the Driver Understanding and Evaluation team.
- Train and evaluate large models, then integrate them into Waymo’s simulator and downstream evaluation and training applications.
- Collaborate with Waymo Oxford researchers to improve simulated-world realism and productionise promising research ideas within evaluation systems.
- Help recruit research engineers for the new London team working with Oxford and Mountain View colleagues.
Why This Role Matters
- Waymo Driver evaluation products use the team’s trained models and realism metrics to judge simulated behaviour across hundreds of vehicle metrics and components.
- The London, Oxford and Mountain View foundation-model programme turns research advances into simulator capabilities that can be reused across autonomous-vehicle evaluation and training workflows.
