Key Notes
Applied deep-learning and coding experience of five or more years each are preferred for this Staff-level simulation role. Based in London with hybrid working, you will collaborate with Oxford and Mountain View on foundation models for autonomous-driving evaluation. The full-time salary range is £155,000–£163,000; all listed candidate criteria appear under a preferred heading.
What You'll Work On
- Develop foundation-model approaches for realistic autonomous-driving simulation, designing experiments with research engineers and colleagues in Oxford and the wider simulator organisation.
- Train and evaluate large models, integrating research outputs into simulation products and the downstream workflows used for driver training and evaluation.
- Define metrics for simulated-world realism and help recruit research engineers, translating experimental ideas into production capabilities within the collaborative simulation team.
Why This Role Matters
- Realistic simulated road users and conditions give Waymo’s evaluation workflows meaningful driving scenarios, allowing modelled behaviour to contribute useful signals when assessing the driver’s responses.
- Foundation models must become usable simulator components to influence evaluation, connecting research experiments with production integration and measurable assessments of the realism of generated worlds.
What They Are Looking For
- Preferred: Preferred attributes include 5+ years in applied deep learning.
- Preferred: Preferred attributes include 5+ years of coding and design experience.
