Java and AWS development support Vix’s public-transport software in this Manchester hybrid role. At least five years of software-development experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree are essential. The engineer develops and maintains applications, resolves production incidents and mentors junior colleagues. The technical remit includes serverless AWS, containerisation, REST APIs, event-driven systems, CI/CD and automated testing.
What You'll Work On
- Design, develop, test and maintain secure, scalable Java software for Vix’s public-transport customer solutions.
- Contribute to Agile sprint planning and reviews, coordinating design priorities and delivery plans with the Team Lead and Principal Engineer.
- Mentor junior engineers through knowledge sharing, code review and technical coaching across the software team.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents and communicate technical findings across Vix’s delivery teams.

What They Are Looking For
- Experience: At least five years of software-development experience is essential.
- Technical: Extensive Java and AWS experience, particularly Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, ECR and CDK, is essential.
- Technical: REST APIs and event-driven architectures using tools such as Kafka, plus relational/non-relational database competence with examples Oracle and PostgreSQL, are essential.
- Technical: Bitbucket and CI/CD pipeline proficiency and automated testing using frameworks such as JUnit, Jest, Selenium, Cucumber Studio or Allure are essential.
- Qualification: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field is essential.
