Technical curiosity, organisation and first-principles thinking are the main requirements for this Edinburgh charging-hub role; prior industry experience is not the central filter. You’ll help find sites, progress leases and planning, secure grid connections and coordinate equipment installation before taking on your own sites. The salary is £40,000–£50,000 plus share options, with office attendance most days and site travel.
What You'll Work On
- Identify industrial or brownfield sites that can provide charging capacity for planned Ember routes, working with agents, landlords and local authorities.
- Progress selected sites through lease negotiation, design and planning, coordinating solicitors, architects and engineers while retaining ownership of decisions.
- Secure grid connections with network operators and manage suppliers through procurement, installation, commissioning and energisation of ultra-fast charging equipment.
- Inspect live and developing hubs in person, resolving practical layout issues and refining parking, washing, charging and driver-facility arrangements.
Why This Role Matters
- Ember’s charging hubs provide the energy capacity needed for electric-coach routes, with site selection and grid connections determining where that capacity can be introduced.
- Each hub also serves as a fleet base, so layout and facilities decisions define the parking, washing and driver provision available alongside charging equipment.

- Experience: You can learn unfamiliar technical specifications, legal terms and planning processes without needing previous experience in a particular industry.
- Technical: You approach site-development problems from first principles and are willing to investigate construction details, three-phase distribution and transformers.
- Stakeholder: You can organise concurrent site projects, following up with landlords, agents, electricians and advisers while tracking timelines and outstanding decisions.
- Technical: You already use AI tools to research unfamiliar subjects, draft documents and develop your understanding of technical or commercial questions.
- Experience: You are comfortable visiting development sites, reading contracts and questioning practical details while maintaining high standards for your work and others’ contributions.
