SmartMobilityTalent

Senior Embedded Software Test Engineer, Onboard Test Automation

Wayve London, United KingdomHybridFull Time

Key Notes

Onboard validation covers operating systems, middleware, sensors and integration points before software reaches full-vehicle testing. You’ll develop automated tests, use hardware-in-the-loop environments and extend CI-based self-service testing. Embedded-software testing, automation programming and hardware interaction experience are essential; Linux or QNX experience is described as ideal. The London role is full time and hybrid, with core working hours.

What You'll Work On

  • Design and execute automated tests for Wayve onboard operating systems, middleware, sensors and integration points.
  • Validate software behaviour on embedded compute hardware within hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Identify coverage gaps with software engineers and extend reusable tests for new and existing functionality.
  • Debug and triage system-level failures across embedded software and hardware boundaries.
  • Integrate self-service tests into CI pipelines and shift established validation earlier in the development cycle.

Why This Role Matters

  • Wayve’s onboard software is tested across embedded subsystems, sensors and integration points before full-vehicle testing, bringing hardware–software faults into view earlier.
  • Reusable automated tests and CI integration let developers validate changes earlier in the development cycle, supporting faster iteration across teams working on onboard software.

What They Are Looking For

  • Experience: Testing embedded software systems, ideally on Linux or QNX platforms, is essential.
  • Technical: Strong Python, C++ or comparable test-development and automation programming is essential.
  • Technical: Embedded hardware experience and understanding of hardware-software interactions are essential.
  • Experience: Debugging complex issues across system layers and applying automation, integration and system-validation principles are essential.
  • Preferred: Hardware-in-the-loop testing, sensor data pipelines, CI/CD integration, robotics, autonomy or real-time software experience is desirable.
