Wheely’s marketplace engineers build services that balance passenger demand, chauffeur supply, pricing and matching. This London position uses Go while the team moves services out of a Ruby monolith, with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis and message brokers in the stack. The advert welcomes mid-level candidates with three years’ experience and senior candidates with five; pay is £90,000–£120,000, with four office days and one remote day. This is a full-time role.
What You'll Work On
- Build performant marketplace services in Go to support pricing and matching between passengers and chauffeurs across the ride-hailing platform.
- Implement new microservices and help migrate existing functionality from legacy services while keeping code maintainable and delivery reliable.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs with product managers, designers and data scientists, supporting marketplace models and algorithms.
- Optimise backend latency and reliability under heavy load, maintaining responsive services as the marketplace grows.
What They Are Looking For
- Experience: At least three years building scalable backend services, or five years for the senior level advertised alongside this opening.
- Technical: Strong engineering fundamentals; Go is used, but interviews can use your strongest language, including Python, C++, Java or Ruby.
- Technical: In-depth relational and NoSQL database knowledge, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Redis, and experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka or similar brokers.
