Overhead-line safety and team supervision are the responsibilities of this West Midlands Metro role at Wednesbury Depot. You will coordinate maintenance, inspections and fault response, maintain technical standards and support infrastructure upgrades. The permanent, full-time position is explicitly site based and pays £46,032 depending on experience; rail or light-rail OLE supervision and the advertised technical qualifications are required, while MEWP operation, emergency response and IOSH training are preferred.
What You'll Work On
- Plan and supervise overhead-line inspections and maintenance, coordinating fault response, contractor activity and safe return to service against technical standards and work priorities.
- Act within authorised electrical-isolation and protection competencies, reviewing risk assessments and method statements and maintaining safe systems of work for infrastructure activity.
- Assess contact-wire condition, tension, height, stagger and wear, including section insulators, using measurements and maintenance evidence to identify corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate Agility asset and work records, develop team capability and support commissioning, upgrades and technical decisions as the depot’s overhead-line authority.
What They Are Looking For
- Experience: Supervisory experience with rail or light-rail overhead-line equipment in a safety-critical environment.
- Technical: Electrical-isolation and OLE maintenance knowledge, including tolerances, measurement and safe working practices.
- Qualification: GCSE Mathematics and English or equivalent, plus a Level 3 mechanical or electrical qualification.
- Qualification: ILM Level 3 or progress towards the qualification.
- Preferred: MEWP experience, emergency OLE fault response and IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent are desirable.
