Degree-level electrical engineering and deep electrical-systems knowledge are essential for this fleet-support role. You’ll investigate in-service faults, deliver root-cause and corrective-action work and support depots, suppliers and technical documentation across UK fleets. The full-time vacancy can be based at any Hitachi Rail UK location and closes 27 September 2026.
What You'll Work On
- Own assigned train electrical systems and investigate in-service faults through evidence gathering, containment, root-cause analysis and long-term corrective action.
- Write detailed technical reports and progress changes through approval with the documentation and evidence required for fleet implementation.
- Support depot technical teams and contribute to hardware, software, maintenance and overhaul documentation for the assigned systems.
- Work with suppliers, London project engineers and Hitachi colleagues in Japan while sharing learning with graduates and the wider maintenance engineering team.

- Qualification: Applicants need engineering degree or demonstrable degree-level capability with excellent technical and operational knowledge of electrical systems.
- Experience: Applicants need ability to conduct hands-on train investigations, work independently and deliver clear technical reports and actions to deadlines.
- Stakeholder: Applicants need strong written and verbal communication and a practical understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Preferred: Rail-industry and UK safety-management knowledge, Yellow Book or CSM training and chartered status are desirable rather than essential.
