Controls Engineer

Wayve London, United KingdomHybridFull Time

Key Notes

Vehicle motion translates Wayve AI Driver outputs into trajectory and motion control across ADAS and autonomous-driving applications. The London full-time role combines production C++ with physical-system control and testing across prototype, reference and production vehicles. Interface development involves adjacent engineering teams, while hybrid working combines time in offices and workshops with home working.

What You'll Work On

  • Develop, integrate, tune and validate control, trajectory-generation and action-processing algorithms across vehicle platforms.
  • Maintain controls software connecting AI Driver outputs with real-time vehicle actuation and feedback.
  • Implement latency-sensitive production C++ for prototype, reference and production vehicles.
  • Use simulation, closed-loop evaluation and on-road testing to diagnose controller behaviour and validate improvements.

Why This Role Matters

  • Wayve AI Driver outputs become physical vehicle motion through the controls stack; controller tuning shapes how those outputs produce smooth, robust responses across vehicle platforms.
  • Prototype, reference and production vehicles use latency-sensitive control software; simulation and on-road evaluation expose controller-performance problems when platforms or driving conditions change.

What They Are Looking For

  • Technical: Relevant technical skills include control theory with depth in optimisation, model-predictive control, numerical methods or dynamical systems.
  • Experience: Practical development, tuning and validation of control or motion systems on physical platforms is sought.
  • Technical: Production-quality C++ and latency-sensitive or real-time software experience are sought.
  • Technical: Debugging complex robotic-system behaviour across software and hardware is sought.
  • Preferred: Applied MPC, trajectory optimisation or motion planning is desirable.
  • Preferred: Mobile robotics, autonomous vehicles, automotive/ADAS, safety-critical validation including ISO 26262, or ML integration experience is desirable.
