Key Notes

ArcGIS delivery across rail infrastructure programmes is the focus, with FME, Python, SQL and Azure used to validate, automate and serve geospatial data. The engineer will connect GIS with BIM, CAD, ProjectWise and common data environments while guiding project teams. Relevant expertise includes UK infrastructure experience and Esri ArcGIS capability; experience on HS2 is advantageous rather than mandatory.

What You'll Work On

  • Collect, validate and maintain spatial and non-spatial datasets used by engineering and project delivery teams across assigned rail infrastructure programmes.
  • Build automated FME and ArcGIS geoprocessing workflows for data transformation, integration, quality checks and repeatable project delivery.
  • Configure ArcGIS web maps, dashboards, applications and data services against programme requirements, information standards and governance controls.
  • Support cloud-based GIS delivery using Microsoft Azure or equivalent platforms, and build Python or SQL data-processing tools.
  • Integrate GIS outputs with BIM, CAD, ProjectWise and common data environments and provide technical guidance or training to project teams.

Why This Role Matters

  • Rail infrastructure project teams receive verified, quality-assured GIS outputs, allowing contractual datasets to be issued to clients or used within project common data environments.
  • Siemens’ GIS datasets must work with wider engineering systems; FME and ArcGIS automation connect processing and validation workflows with ProjectWise and other project platforms, supporting scalable data exchange.

What They Are Looking For

  • Qualification: Relevant qualifications include a technical qualification in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Technical: Esri ArcGIS Pro, Online and Enterprise experience is sought alongside FME data processing and integration capability.
  • Domain: Knowledge of GIS, CAD, BIM and geospatial data standards used on UK infrastructure projects is sought.
  • Experience: Relevant experience includes practical delivery of GIS solutions on large infrastructure or rail projects in the United Kingdom.
  • Technical: Relevant technical skills include the ability to implement digital workflows, configuration, testing and data validation.
